Guidelines for a safer space
Turku Pride’s parade, park party and after party are all discrimination-free areas: everyone is
welcome as they are.
*We do not accept homophobia, transphobia, sexism, racism, discrimination based on disability,
health or other human characteristics, harassment, or otherwise inappropriate behavior
- Respect others
o Respect the diversity of people. Respect their different backgrounds, experiences and thoughts.
o Meet other people as they are and let them define their own gender identity, sexual orientation or
other background. Everyone has the right to define themselves or not to define themselves.
o Respect your own and others’ boundaries, physical, mental and social. - Don’t assume
o Don’t make assumptions about other people. Listen and be open-minded.
o Respect the pronouns of others. Whether we speak Swedish, English or some other language,
everyone gets to decide what name and pronoun they will be called by. - Give space
o Try to ensure that everyone has room to participate. Don’t belittle other people’s opinions and
give space for everyone to have their turn in talking.
o Let’s create a positive and constructive environment where everyone has the opportunity to
participate or not to participate.
o Everyone can participate in their own way: it is also allowed to be silent. - Consider those around you
○ Do not smoke in the immediate vicinity of others without permission. - Do not take or post pictures without the permission of everyone in the picture
o There may be photographers at Turku Pride events, but they will never take/publish close-up
photos of people without the permission of the participants. - In a safer space, it is safe to step into your own discomfort zone and recognize what you don’t
know yet and learn new things - Take it easy
- Making mistakes and asking questions are allowed.
- Each participant is responsible for the making of a safer space
- If you experience or witness discrimination, harassment, bullying or threats, contact the
harassment contact person
