Open activities in Valo, in Kupla, for youths

Open activities in Valo, in Kupla (Youth guarantee house Turku), for youths (15-29-year-olds). We don’t check your age, it’s enough that you are an young adult. Kupla is an open meeting place and recreation for youths and young adults who are in search for a living room for youth work. There are activities every Tuesday and Wednesday. On the Turku Pride -week there is programme related to the theme.

On Saturday the 26.8. we participate at the Pride-parade. We meet at the Valo youth-club in Pastell (Humalistonkatu 7b, 20100 Turku) in the purpose of preparation and a bit of breakfast, and we leave together towards the parade. More information in Instagram: @nuorisotakuutalo_turku or directly from a instructor, for instance via an WhatsApp-message at workday time: Anu 040 195 3881.

Accessibility information

For the most part Kupla gathers at the youths-club of Valo at Pastell, which is physically accessible. A buss-stop is within visible distance.

A short ramp on Humalistonkatu leads to an front door which lies at the side of a couple of stairs. Pastell is on one level and the whole space is somewhat visible from the door. There is an accessible toilet in the place and an audio induction loop, as well as different tables and seats in various heights.

Already in advance we always aim to take diets and allergies into consideration.

There are always two instructors on location. Support is given by the instructors, for example if anxiety takes over the pit of the stomach, or if there is otherwise concerns in ones life. We don’t accept any kind of inappropriate behavior. In the case that you visit the other office of Valo at Ratapihankatu, you gain access to the place by stairs or elevator.

In the third floor of the space there is an accessible toilet that is not as accessible as it should be: it is quite narrow. Ergo we cannot say that the location at Ratapihankatu is completely accessible. We are happy to help, inform of your arrival and we exist for you. (Ratapihankatu 53C, 20100 Turku). Come bravely as yourself, you are important and you are enough at every moment. <3

If there is something on your mind ask the instructor about it, for instance via an WhatsApp-message at workday time: Anu 040 195 3881.

18:00-20:30 Dirty River Roller Derby: scrimmage (exhibition match)

Location: Ilpoinen ball games hall, Lauklähteenkatu 13

Welcome to watch roller derby! Turku’s finest and only roller derby team, Dirty River Roller Derby, is organizing an open-to-everyone exhibition match on Monday, August 21st, from 6pm to 8pm, right at the beginning of Turku Pride week. This is a great opportunity for everyone to get acquainted with the sport in an approachable way. The match theme is ‘Rage and Love,’ fitting the spirit of Turku Pride. We hope to see a large audience there to cheer on!

Roller derby is a fast-paced and strategic full-contact sport played on quad roller skates on an oval track. The game involves two teams, each with a point scorer called a jammer and four blockers who try to hinder the jammer’s progress. Points are scored when a team’s jammer passes the opposing blockers. The game is full of speed and intense moments, and bruises are a part of the fun!

After the exhibition match, we offer the chance to try out skating and learn more about participating in roller derby in Turku. We are hosting two FREE open skate events on Thursday, August 24th, and Thursday, August 31st, open to anyone who has even the slightest interest in derby. More information about open skates can be found under the Thursday section of the pride program. DRRD aims to provide a safe, discrimination-free space for training, playing, volunteering, and being a fan. Date and time: August 22, 6pm to 9pm. Please arrive between 6pm and 6:15pm so that everyone will be present when we start at 6:15pm.

We welcome you to try self-tying and meet other self-tiers in the Selftie Social Pride night! With self-tying, we’re referring to rope bondage on oneself. Rope bondage, if Japanese-inspired, is also referred to by the names shibari and kinbaku. Self-tying can be decorative, meditative, erotic, technical, acrobatic, or just plain fun – in other words, just what the self-tiers themselves want!

This is an easily-approachable event for those for whom rope bondage is something brand new. In the Pride Week self-tying evening we show the basics of rope bondage. We especially welcome any new self-tiers, i.e. who have tied with a partner but for whom self-tying is new, and cordially also those who are into self-tying but haven’t been to the Selftie Socials yet.

The Narukerho Selftie Social usually meets on the first Wednesday of each month. It is intended for anyone interested in self-tying of any skill level. Both speech and space are free at Selftie Socials: you can either participate in the discussions, or just concentrate on your own ropes. Selftie Socials are intended for tying oneself only: you can participate with a partner (or several), but please do not tie with them during the event (with the exceptions listed under the accessibility section).

Place: Manilla, Läntisen tanssin aluekeskus’s studio, Itäinen rantakatu 64 B

Living in the closet and coming out of the closet are phenomena that concerns kinks as well queer-people, but what does it actually mean? Is it necessary to rush out of the closet in a rumble, or is it possible to step by step carefully open the door a touch.

There are no real answers to the question, but we will ponder these questions at Turun Balettis Out of the closet! -panel discussion in the Turku Pride -week. We will hear perspectives from professionals of the BDSM-field as well as active people in the kink scene.
